Role: Senior Development Chemist

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000

Location: North Oxford

Are you a Development Chemist looking to step into a Senior Development Role? You might also be a Senior Developer looking for a more creative role? Do you specialise within the development of cleaning chemicals, biocides or household cleaning products such as detergents, disinfectants or antiseptics if yes, we would like to hear from you!

Role:

To undertake product development activities to formulate brand new products, plus ensure our clients existing products remain high quality and cost-effective. Novel formulation development and continuous improvement of existing products.

  • Coordinate product stability and performance trials, generating new and innovative performance test methods.
  • Commission biocidal efficacy and cosmetic preservative efficacy tests etc and manage communication with third-party labs.
  • Prepare samples and organise field trials with the service engineers and sales team.
  • Create and maintain product specifications, alongside methods of manufacture and product user guides.
  • Surveying competitor products on the market to ensure our products can compete on performance and price.
  • Working alongside the Commercial Manager to source new and effective ingredients from an array of chemical suppliers.
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive standard operating procedures and process flowcharts for product development.

Batch corrections:

  • Support the lab and production teams with batch corrections.
  • Support the QA team with decisions concerning Quarantined stock.
  • Support the lab team in day-to-day operations, for example: product testing, cosmetic swabbing.

Product knowledge training:

  • Customer liaison, including on-site visits to aid in the resolution of technical enquiries.
  • Provide ongoing, comprehensive product knowledge training to the sales team.
  • Approval of product labels prior to printing.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Attention to detail, innovative and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with colleagues and customers.
  • Adaptable and capable of working under pressure towards deadlines.
  • Independent and well organised.
  • Working knowledge of relevant chemicals legislation e.g. REACH, CLP, BPR, CPR as this shapes potential formulation development.
  • Commercially aware with margin and turnover knowledge.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).

Person:

Essential:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience of developing products for the household, industrial & institutional cleaning market.
  • Experience of good working practices in a laboratory.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant chemical scientific discipline

Desirable:

  • SDS authoring experience.
  • Working experience Oracle Netsuite.
  • Practised in presenting to groups of people.
  • Experience in formulating liquids for PVA pods.
