Meet the team Monday!

Science Solutions has been steadily expanding over the last few years and as our team flourishes, it’s a privilege for us to share with you our team stories. For the next 11 weeks, we will share a profile with you, commencing today and taking us all the way to Christmas Eve.

To start us off, let’s meet Daniel Lloyd, Co-Founding Director and specialist in cosmetics, personal care, household and FMCG industries.

Professional background

Dan graduated with a BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science from Manchester Metropolitan University. Following a year spent traveling the world and 7 years’ working for a corporate UK-based scientific recruitment firm, Dan decided that he wanted to work for a company where expertise, values and relationships were at the core of the business: he formed Science Solutions Recruitment along with a highly-regarded colleague and an optimistic vision. Their aim was to create a niche recruitment business, and they haven’t looked back since. In his day to day role as a company director and cosmetics specialist, Dan oversees the growth and development of key accounts and supports our cosmetics team with industry expertise and headhunting.

He is based at our Lancaster office, often traveling to work from our Birchwood Park office in Warrington. All our staff travel between offices and have regular full-team social events, nurturing excellent working relationships and exemplary team communication.

Working in Lancaster

In Lancaster, our office is next to the Lancaster Canal; a peaceful location within the city centre. Dan enjoys walking at lunch time and after work, and takes advantage of the fabulous gym which is around 10 metres away from our office door. No excuses for not working out during lunch time, especially when Science Solutions have a healthy living contract, allowing all staff to extend their lunch break if they use it to exercise. Lancaster has a food market every Wednesday and there’s always something going on: Lancaster Live, Light Up Lancaster, Lancaster Jazz Festival. It’s a great place to live and work, being on the doorstep to the Lake District and yet only 2.5 hours on a direct train to London Euston.

Camping, music and martial arts

Dan swaps his suit for camping attire at every opportunity, so if you don’t know where to find him – he’s likely in a tent somewhere, in the rain, with his Kelly Kettle for company. He has all the gear and some idea… favouring wild-camping trips alone, and semi-wild camping trips with his 3-year-old son. He’s a cave man at heart: happiest when lighting fires, cooking his home grown produce and listening to ska punk on his not-so-cave-man mobile phone.

He’s a 1st Dan kickboxer, having spent many years attending a club in Manchester and has tried various martial arts including Balintawak, Judo and Mixed Martial Arts. He learnt to ski in his 20s and now goes every year with his wife and two young children, mostly to Morzine in the French Alps. He describes himself as having the pastimes of an OAP, rather than a 30-something: spending a lot of time at his allotment and making preserves.

Before science and recruitment, Dan would have liked a career as a rock star. He taught himself to play the guitar as a teenager and still listens to the same tracks from all those years ago. Luckily for him, most of the bands are still popular now: Nirvana, Pennywise, Rage Against the Machine and the lesser-known Mad Caddies.

  • Are you responsible for recruitment and struggling to find the right talent for your team?
  • Would you like Dan’s recipe for chilli chutney?
  • Interested in kickboxing, allotments, wild camping, being a busy working father, owning a dog…?
