Meet the team Monday!

Week twelve: our final ‘Meet the team Monday’ blog (for now…)! As our team grows, it’s a privilege for us to share with you their stories and expertise. Last week you met Darren Hawley, our expert in polymers and materials. This week (and on New Year’s Eve!), let’s meet the newest member of our biotechnology team: Jenni Bates.

Jenni joined us with a strong background in recruiting for the UK biotechnology and life science industries. She is a welcome addition to our growing biotech division, focussing on the recruitment of scientific and technical staff for biotechnology and life sciences across the UK.

Professional background

Jenni studied Biology at Manchester Metropolitan University and did a placement year at South Dakota State University in the USA, majoring in Human Anatomy and Genetics. She worked for over 3 years as a Senior Resourcer – recruiting staff for the following industries: biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceutical, medical devices and chemicals. Jenni has also worked as a Recruitment Consultant within the scientific and health industries, so she has come to us very well-equipped to develop our biotech and life sciences team. This in an area of industry where very specific skill-sets are required: scientific and technical staff are highly sought after and Jenni’s previous experience and expertise will stand her in good stead to support our clients with temporary, permanent and contract staff for their niche businesses and research enterprises. She is efficient in skills-matching and recruiting staff who complement each company’s unique values, ethos and longer term business strategies.

For job seekers wishing to enhance their career within the biotechnology or life science industries: Jenni can support you throughout the whole process: from finding suitable companies and opportunities, through applications and interviews, support with relocation if required, right up to starting a new role and being happy in your career decisions.

Working at Birchwood Park

Jenni is based at our Birchwood Park office and enjoys the flexibility of extended lunch breaks to allow her to use the on-site gym and leisure facilities. Birchwood Park is home to 165 companies and provides an outstanding working environment, in a well-connected location. Wellness weeks, outdoor boot camps, Summer BBQ’s, film nights and allotments are just a few of the little extras that employees can benefit from. Science Solutions encourage all staff to use their lunch breaks for fresh air and exercise. All members of the team can take a 1.5-hour lunch break if they are going to the gym or using their lunch to exercise.

Wildlife, travel and food!

Away from the office, Jenni spends a lot of time with her family and friends and at the gym, which allows her to do her favourite thing – eat! To wind down from working and socialising, you will find her binging on box-sets which can range from true crime series to wildlife documentaries. Her love for wildlife and nature has led her to get involved with a few conservation projects including a short time in the mountains of Madeira and several weeks travelling around East Africa, where she followed the wildebeest migration and camped with lions in the Serengeti! In the UK, she happily settles for walks in the British countryside with her two family dogs and now with her latest addition – a pug puppy named Meeko!
