A global chemicals and coatings company are looking for a Plant Technical Manager to join their team near Edinburgh.

As Plant Technical Manager you are responsible for monitoring and improving the technical performance of existing manufacturing processes and supporting the introduction of new products in line with business needs

To be considered for this role you will hold a degree in Chemistry or related subject and hold previous experience as a Technical Manager with a demonstrable track record of managing all technical performance aspects of production processes and product outcomes.

Responsibilities:

The job role is split into 3 main areas; Optimise process, development and performance; continuous improvement and project delivery; maintain standards and manage compliance.

Optimise process, development and performance

  • Manage the siting of new products, processes and improvement of existing products and processes
  • Identify, investigate and initiate options for improving operational efficiency, process variability, quality and yield performance of existing processes
  • Maintain a comprehensive system for recording, tracking and analysis of process performance data including statistical methods of control and trend analysis

Continuous improvement and project delivery

  • Investigate and develop solutions for intractable technical problems encountered in the manufacture of complex dye molecules and dispersions to achieve continued improvement of plant and process performance
  • Plan, control and lead activities to successfully implement 'Management of Change' processes to improve process efficiency and product performance with no impact on product quality
  • Carry out plant support activity as required for start-up projects and to aid resolution of routine manufacture process issues

Maintain standards and manage compliance

  • Define and deliver appropriate training and technical support to staff prior to and during trial manufacture to ensure processes are established safely and effectively to meet cost, SHE, time and quality targets
  • Motivate, train and develop staff to achieve higher professional standards and realise their potential as individuals and as a team
  • Act as technical liaison on technical issues surrounding QA compliance

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Degree in Chemistry or similar
  • 5+ years' experience in a manufacturing technical role particularly within the multi product batch processing industry
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of quality and root cause analysis
  • Expertise and application of continuous improvement methodologies and tools
  • Excellent data interrogation skills
  • Flexibility to provide manufacturing support in the form of call out or shifts as and when the business requires it
  • Proven strong problem solving and facilitating skills
  • In depth knowledge of SHE/Quality Systems
  • Excellent project management capabilities

Desirable

  • Experience in use of JMP and scripting journals
  • Experience of Hazard and Operability studies
  • Experience of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
